Betty’s, York

Whilst in York, we got our pinky’s out for Afternoon Tea at the infamous Betty’s.

Founded by Swiss baker, Frederic Belmont, in 1919, the family run business now houses 6 tea rooms/cafés in various locations in Yorkshire – staying true to the original combination of ‘Swiss confectionary and Yorkshire warmth’.

Right from the start we were met with warm smiles and class, with all the staff wearing the traditional uniform.

The Afternoon Tea menu included a range of 18 speciality teas, dainty finger sandwiches, and handmade scones and cakes.

IMG_6479The refreshing ginger and lemongrass tisane and the smooth ceylon blue sapphire were our favourite teas.

Finally, we just wanted to point out… when dining in a fancy tea room, don’t ask the staff if they can read your future from your tea leaves… they will probably judge you.

That totally didn’t happen…

Issy and Ang go to York!

Last weekend we went to York for our friends birthday.

We were only there for a couple days, but we tried to see (and photograph) as much of it as possible!

York Cocoa House for a rose flavoured hot chocolate and chilli chocolate truffles.

IMG_6349IMG_6350IMG_6354IMG_6355IMG_6356IMG_6964Then made a brief stop at an Italian deli/restaurant to pick up some prosciutto, olives and ALL THE PAN DI STELLE BISCUITS.

IMG_6959 IMG_6961 IMG_6963IMG_6955IMG_7070Our final stop was to The House of Trembling Madness – a medieval ale house and specialist beer merchant/store. The pub upstairs may be small, but what it lacks in size it completely makes up for in decor… it’s like stepping back in time! Speciality beer by candlelight? Yes please.
